2ND ANNUAL DICTIONARY PROJECT
This is our club's second year in providing dictionaries to the 3rd grade students in North Ridgeville. Once again, Rotarian and North Ridgeville City Schools Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Dr. Craig Phillips has spearheaded this great project. On October 8th, Rotarians presented dictionaries to thirteen separate 3rd grade classes at Wilcox Elementary, Liberty Elementary, and St. Peter's School. During the short presentation, we stress the importance of success in school and in life. We also discuss why people use dictionaries, and the importance of spelling words correctly, as a command of the English language makes people more effecting in the workplace and life in general. THANK YOU, Dr. Phillips, for once again taking the lead on this project. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Robert E. "Bob" and Caroline Prevette District Governor Bob Prevette and his wife Caroline were our guests in September. As part of the annual visit, Bob met with the officers and board members of our club to review our current and future activities and direction. Bob also spoke to the club during our meeting and made special mention of the recent local and international projects we are involved in. He also made special mention of Past Assistant District Governor Warren Blakely, a long-time member of our club, for all of his contributions to the District. Bob stressed during his presentation that our returning to the basics is in the right direction for our District and has been appreciated by club members. During his relatively short time as governor, he and Caroline have already participated in numerous club visits, in addition to various district and zone events and meetings. These have included the district softball tournament, AG Foundation training, GSE kickoff, Foundation fundraiser and conference planning, Interact Club development, district regional membership training, RI president's zone membership training in South Bend, district Indians baseball evening, zone foundation training, RI president's Ashland University visit, and the Council of Governors gathering. Bob again thanked our club for everything we do in support of Rotary, and offered his full support throughout his term as governor. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
NORTH RIDGEVILLE CITY SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT MICHAEL TEFS Michael Tefs, Superintendent Michael Tefs, new Superintendent of the North Ridgeville City Schools, was our guest during a meeting in September. Mr. Tefs spoke of the District's Mission - to educate all students to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens - and how it is the essence of everything the school district does in order to be a success. As one of 612 school districts in the State and 14 in Lorain County, we provide education programs and services to over 3,800 students. A focused education action plan, a knowledgeable staff - over 54% hold a master's degree - and strong community support have enabled the District to meet the rigorous expectations for programs and services. Mr. Tefs spoke of the four main areas of focus for the District, which include our academics, our people connection, our facilities and transportation, and our finances. In all, we have been able to achieve 25 out of 30 state performance indicators, earning an Effective rating for a third year in a row. The District also met its Adequate Yearly Progress targets as set by the federal No Child Left Behind Act. We welcome Mr. Tefs as our newest Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of North Ridgeville. If you would like additional information about the school district, you can visit their web site at www.nrcs.k12.oh.us. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________- ROTARY CLUB OF NORTH RIDGEVILLE'S 2ND ANNUAL FISHING DERBY
Rotarians and Senior Fishing Club members appear to be having as much fun as the students! What a catch!
The Rotary Club of North Ridgeville sponsored the Second Annual Fishing Derby for students in Mrs. Maurer's, Mrs. Demyan's, Ms. Kapucinski's, and Miss Schroeder's classes on Friday, May 18, 2007. Approximately 25 students and school staff members attended the event at the Fishing Lake at South Central Park. Tackle and expert fishing strategies were provided by the North Ridgeville Senior Fishing Club under the direction of Club President and fellow Rotarian Bob Kirkpatrick. Students, teachers and Rotarians were treated to a picnic lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, and all the trimmings. Throughout the event, several fish were caught (and released), and a great time was had by all. Special "thanks" goes out to Bob Kirkpatrick and the entire North Ridgeville Senior Fishing Club, Dr. Craig Phillips for all the planning and scheduling of the event, and all Rotarians who helped in the cooking, clean-up, and "fishing tips" throughout the day. There are sure to be some tall "fish tales" told about this day for many years to come! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
INTERACT CLUB
Members of the North Ridgeville High School Interact Club were guests of our Rotary Club during our meeting on December 8th. Rotarian Adam Sonnhalter is our club's advisor for the group, while North Ridgeville High School Principal Patricia Bahr is the school advisor. The Interact Club recently held a Pizza Challenge on October 28th as a fundraiser for Community Care. Local pizza eateries Dominos, Donatos, Our Place, Pizza Hut, Georgios, Izzos and Petey's Filling Station all competed. Attendees sampled all of the varieties of pizza and voted for their favorite, with Petey's Filling Station walking away as champion. Nearly $1,900 was raised and over 200 pounds of food was collected for distribution to those in need in North Ridgeville. There were 300 people in attendance. THANK YOU for everyone who volunteered with this project!
